 Characteristic of a Good Fuel

In this blog, we will learn what are the characteristics of a good Fuel
  • High Calorific Value: A fuel must have high calorific fuel so that during burning it can produce high amount of energy .
  • Low Moisture Content : A Fuel must have low moisture content as they produce less amount of energy/heat compare to low moisture fuel. It leads increase cost of fuel and time to achieve the same thing attain by the low moisture content fuel

  • Combustion production of the fuel should not be hazardous : As we all know burning of fuel leads to produce many harmful gaseous like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide etc . which are harmful to human as well as environment so a good fuel must have low hazardous production for combustion
  • Transport : Solid and liquid fuel are easy to transport and store . This will lead the decrease in the selling cost .
  • Combustion of the fuel must be controllable . Whatever fuel you use make sure it is easy to control else chances of fire hazards is possible
  • Easy to burn with air and does not produce smoke or other harmful gaseous
  • Storage cost of the fuel must be low for example storage cost of liquid /gas (petrol , hydrogen) fuel is high as compare to solid fuel (example coal)
  • Fuel need to be cheaper so that it can be use normally without effecting economy
  • Moderate ignition Temperature : Ignition temperature is that temperature where the fuel must be preheated so that it start burning . Low iginition temperature means fire hazardous chance .High iginition temperature means low claorific value , not econmocial etc so fuel must have moderate iginition temperature
